Zen Judo Bury is run by Senior Coach Shihan George Launders (Rokudan), with assistance from his senior students Sensei Michael McLaughlin and Sensei Alf Duddridge. Shihan Launders has been studying the art of Judo for 40+ years (since the age of 16) and has taken part in many National & International competitions for the UK and the UK Judo Kata team. Shihan Launders currently holds the rank of 6th Dan in British Zen Judo, 3rd Dan with the British Judo Association and 3rd Dan Kempo Ju-Jitsu under Shihan John Duggan (Head of Kyusho Jitsu Europe & the second Highest Ranked Instructor in the International Kempo Ju-Jitsu Union).

Shihan Launders teaches a practical system of Judo rather than the mainstream sporting system, aiming to teach his students to rely on body mechanics and technique rather than strength or weight.

The class atmosphere is friendly, and classes are open to anyone with a genuine desire to learn, leave your ego at the door! Lots of the students training under Shihan Launders also study other systems, such as BJJ, MMA, Muay Thai, Boxing and Kempo Ju-Jitsu, with their skill levels ranging from white belts to high-ranking black belts in those other systems. What we believe this demonstrates is that Shihan Launders teachings have something of value to anyone willing to learn and will likely help augment your existing martial arts training. So why not come along and give a class a try?
